My ideas are developed through a combination of research, writing, and making. For the visual artist, writing typically plays only a supporting role. At times, however, it is a more developed practice, whether for a particular publication purpose or to more completely articulate a collection of thoughts. Collected here are a few such pieces. These take the form of essays, reviews, and text-based diagrams.
  • Mimemisis - Ontology Map
a diagram mapping the relationship of various mimetic strategies with ontological/epistemological perspectives

  • Mimetic Strategies in Contemporary Art
an essay that explores a particluar vein in from the document above by reflecting on the work of several artists who engage in a political art practice

  • Going Home
a review of an exhibition by Jon Bobby Benjamin at the Hamiltonian Gallery in 2010

  • Object of Networks, Lecture Map
a map about objects, networks, and systems of control developed over the course of the semester as the basis for my lectures in The Object of Networks class
